About
The Center for BioMolecular Modeling (CBM) focuses on making the invisible molecular world "real" to students through the development of physical models of proteins and other macromolecules that become "thinking tools" in the classroom. These physical models combine the xyz coordinates of macromolecules with rapid prototyping technology to create accurate representations of macromolecular structure.
The CBM works with researchers and educators to develop instructional materials that go beyond the facts of science to present the process of science, while developing scientific skills in an active learning environment. Many of these materials are made available to educators through our Model Lending Library.
In addition to developing educational materials, the CBM provides professional development opportunities for educators, both at the CBM and across the country. From our collaboration with educators, the CBM has developed outreach programs for students, SMART Teams and the Science Olympiad Protein Modeling event, as well as the Eat SMART program.
