Local SMART Teams
Local SMART Teams in the Milwaukee area meet with CBM staff on several Saturday mornings during the fall to review basic protein structure and learn to use RasMol, a computer visualization program. After designing and building a Qualification Model, Teams are paired with a research Mentor. SMART Teams visit their respective Mentor's laboratory to learn more about the process of science and the particular protein the Mentor studies. The Team designs and builds a model of the protein during the Research and Design Phase. In the Presentation Phase, Teams work with their Mentor to develop a poster and an oral presentation that explain their "molecular story" - why their protein is important and how the structure relates to the function of the protein.
