Remote SMART Teams
Remote SMART Teams work directly with their teacher to review basic protein structure and learn to use RasMol, a computer visualization program. After designing and building a Qualification Model, Teams either identifies a research Mentor or CBM staff who serve as a Mentor. Mentors select a protein that the Team will study in detail. The Team designs and builds a model of the protein during the Resaerch and Design Phase. In the Presentation Phase, Teams work with their Mentor to develop a poster and an oral presentation that explain their 'molecular story' - why their protein is important and how the structure relates the function of the protein. Remote SMART Team teachers may wish to visit HHMI SMART Team to determine if there is a regional SMART Team program in their area.
